ASIA PACIFIC CONVENTION
What a great Convention we had! With just on 300 registered attendees and 25 partners and 360 people booked in for the Gala dinner on the Thursday night all involved regard it as extremely successful. The technical programme was really well attended throughout which speaks well for the quality of the Presentations. We are very grateful to all our Paper and Poster presenters who willingly give up their time to prepare and present and this is one of the keys to the success of each of our Conventions.

One of the key events of the Technical programme was the "Great Debate" held on Wednesday afternoon at 4.00 pm. This was held in front of a packed house with the subject being "It takes good malt to make good beer". The "For" team consisted of Mont Stuart and Evan Evans and the "Against team was Charlie Bamforth and Bill Taylor. The debate was a very lively and intersting one and then there was strong discussion and participation by the audience.

We have had very strong support for our Convention from our Sponsors, and Exhibitors and without their support there would really be no Convention so we thank them also. Each of them will be recognised on our Website shortly.

The CD of the Proceedings will be mailed out to all members who did not attend the Convention over the next few weeks and will also be published on our Website. Similarly a selection of Photographs taken durng the Convention will also be published.

The final Gala Dinner was a night to be remembered with our inaugural IBD Idol competition. This was hosted by Mark Holden who was amazed at the talents of the 4 contestants. They were Simon Rowe from Lion Nathan, James Houston from Foster's Group, Ian Jones from the African Section and Simon Jackson who is the Executive Director of the IBD in London. Simon Rowe was declared the winner based on voting from the audience in what came down to a few votes.

It was decided at the section committee meeting held on the Sunday prior to the Convention that the next one will be in Melbourne in 2012 and planning has already begun to ensure this will be as good as or better than the one we have just witnessed.

LION NATHAN THREATENS FOSTER'S BEERS.

A recent analyst's review suggests that the penetration of LN's increasingly popular Boag's brand into the mainland Australian market is likely to hurt Foster's national market share and cost it about $100m in revenue and $40 M in EBIT.

According th this anlayst, consumers are increasingly willing to try new brands and after years of failing to crack the fiercely loyal Victorian market Lion Nathan now had the Boag's brand which has resonated with Victorians.

BREWERS EDUCATION

BREWER'S EDUCATION CORNER

A woman walked into the kitchen to find her Husband stalking around with a fly swatter..

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"Hunting flies" He responded.

"Oh! Killing any?" She asked.

"Yep, 3 males, 2 females," he replied.

Intrigued, she asked.
"How can you tell them apart?"

He responded,
- 3 were on a beer can,
- 2 were on the phone.”

WOMEN WHO KNOW THEIR PLACE

Barbara Walters, of 20/20, did a story on gender roles in Kabul,Afghanistan , several years before the Afghan conflict.. She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands.

She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands. Despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem to, and are happy to, maintain the old custom.

Ms. Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked, 'Why do you now seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so desperately
to change?'

The woman looked Ms. Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation said, 'Land Mines'.

Moral of the story:
No matter what language you speak or where you go,
BEHIND EVERY MAN THERE'S A SMART WOMAN!

A STORY FROM THE VATICAN

After getting all of Pope Benedict's luggage loaded into the limo, (and he doesn't travel light), the driver notices the Pope is still standing on the curb.

'Excuse me, Your Holiness,' says the driver, 'Would you please take your seat so we can leave?'

'Well, to tell you the truth,' says the Pope, 'they never let me drive at the Vatican when I was a cardinal, and I'd really like to drive today.'

'I'm sorry, Your Holiness, but I cannot let you do that. I'd lose my job! What if something should happen?' protests the driver, wishing he'd never gone to work that morning..

'Who's going to tell?' says the Pope with a smile.

Reluctantly, the driver gets in the back as the Pope climbs in behind the wheel. The driver quickly regrets his decision when, after exiting the airport, the Pontiff floors it, accelerating the limo to 205 kms.. (Remember, the Pope is German..)

'Please slow down, Your Holiness!' pleads the worried driver, but the Pope keeps the pedal to the metal until they hear sirens.

'Oh, dear God, I'm going to lose my license -- and my job!' moans the driver.

The Pope pulls over and rolls down the window as the cop approaches, but the cop takes one look at him, goes back to his motorcycle, and gets on the radio..

'I need to talk to the Chief,' he says to the dispatcher.

The Chief gets on the radio and the cop tells him that he's stopped a limo going 205 kph.

'So bust him,' says the Chief.

'I don't think we want to do that, he's really important,' said the cop.

The Chief exclaimed,' All the more reason!'

'No, I mean really important,' said the cop with a bit of persistence.

The Chief then asked, 'Who do you have there, the mayor?'
Cop: 'Bigger.'

Chief: ' A senator?'
Cop: 'Bigger.'

Chief: 'The Prime Minister?'
Cop: 'Bigger.'

'Well,' said the Chief, 'who is it?'

Cop: 'I think it's God!'

The Chief is even more puzzled and curious, 'What makes you think it's God?'

Cop: 'His chauffeur is the Pope!'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONFESSION

There once was a religious young woman who went to Confession. Upon entering the confessional, she said, 'Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.'

The priest said, 'Confess your sins and be forgiven..'

The young woman said, 'Last night my boyfriend made mad, passionate love to me seven times.'

The priest thought long and hard and then said, 'Squeeze seven lemons into a glass and then drink the juice.'

The young woman asked, 'Will this cleanse me of my sins?'

The priest said, 'No, but it will wipe that smile off of your face.'

DISAPPOINTMENT

A man was just waking up from anesthesia after surgery, and his wife was sitting by his side. His eyes fluttered open and he said, 'You're beautiful.' Then he fell asleep again.

His wife had never heard him say that before, so she stayed by his side. A few minutes later his eyes fluttered open and he said, 'You're cute.' The wife was disappointed because instead of 'beautiful,' it was now 'cute.'

She asked, 'What happened to beautiful?'

The man replied, 'The drugs are wearing off.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
CATHOLIC DOG

Muldoon lived alone in the Irish countryside with only a pet dog for company... One day the dog died, and Muldoon went to the parish priest and asked, 'Father, my dog is dead.... Could ya' be saying' a mass for the poor creature?'

Father Patrick replied, 'I'm afraid not; we cannot have services for an animal in the church.... But there are some Baptists down the lane, and there's no tellin' what they believe. Maybe they'll do something for the creature..'

Muldoon said, 'I'll go right away Father.. Do ya' think $5,000 is enough to donate to them for the service?'

Father Patrick exclaimed, 'Sweet Mary , Mother of Jesus! Why didn't ya tell me the dog was Catholic?
