************************************************************ 2012 ASIA PACIFIC CONVENTION
The 2012 Convention Organising Committee is now steaming ahead with most of the events for our Convention pretty well locked in place. Although we still have a Provisional Programme which is available from our Website, there are only minor changes to be made. Details of the Debate and Panel topics will be finalised within a week and will be available on the Website. We believe that the Technical Programme will be of interest to all delegates with a great range of speakers on a wide variety of topics. We have a significant number of overseas speakers who will be of great interest. The Trade Exhibition is now sold out and there will be something there for everyone. As well we have had a great deal of interest in Poster presentations so the Exhibition and Poster session on the Monday will be of great benefit.
The social programme is designed to allow delegates to catch up, renew old friendships, create new ones and to take advantage of Melbourne's highlights. Similarly the partner's programme offers a varied sample of Melbourne's offerings. Early Bird registration closed on 30th November but Normal Registration can be made from our Website under the 2012 Convention. Follow the link below to access the registration form now and to view the Technical programme.

************************************************************ MONT STUART
Best wishes MONT, Asia Pacific will miss you.
Relocation at the best of times can be nerve racking but to move to the other side of the world with your family is a real challenge. Mont Stuart wishes to let his friends and colleagues know he has left Joe White Maltings after 23 years to go to a position of Manager Barley and Malt Operations for MillerCoors based in Golden Colorado USA. Mont started in mid- October. Unfortunately the news missed the October and November newsletters - we apologise for being so late with this announcement.
Mont Stuart studied Biochemistry at LaTrobe University in Australia and completed a MSc degree focussing on '-Glucanases in germinating barley. In 1984 he commenced work at the Victorian Crops Research Institute as the Barley Chemist. He subsequently moved to Joe White Maltings (JWM) in 1988 as the Research Chemist.
The R&D work focussed on JWM's involvement with most of Australia's public barley breeding programs, as well as conducting research projects on '-Glucan, arabinoxylan and starch in barley and malt in collaboration with a number of Australian Universities.
In 2000 he joined the sales team where his strong relationships within the broader brewing community played a key role in doubling JWM exports to approximately 400,000 t. p.a.
Aside from his Technical and Sales achievements, Mont's unique style of speaking has made him a must for industry functions where he likes to inject life into even the most droll of occasions. The Melbourne 2012 Convention will not be the same without Mont's witty character. We can only hope Mont has more success with pitching a baseball than with his notorious fast bowling action.
We wish Mont, Jeanette and youngest son, Edward the very best for their new life in Colorado and to eldest son Monty as he continues his University studies in Melbourne.

FOSTER'S ACQUISITION This and the following article have been reproduced with the kind permission of e-Malt.com. Members are encouraged to subscribe to this excellent newsletter) SABMiller gets final approvals to acquire Foster's - acquisition scheme to be implemented in two weeks
SABMiller plc announceD on December 2 that, following the approval by Foster's Group Limited shareholders the day earlier, the Supreme Court of Victoria has approved the Scheme of Arrangement pursuant to which SABMiller will acquire all of the shares in Foster's.
The Scheme will be implemented on 16 December 2011, the world's second-largest brewer said.
SABMiller plc is one of the world's largest brewers with brewing interests and distribution agreements across six continents. The group's wide portfolio includes global brands such as Pilsner Urquell, Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Miller Genuine Draft and Grolsch, as well as leading local brands such as Aguila, Castle, Miller Lite, Snow and Tyskie.
In the year ended 31 March 2011, the group reported US$4,491 million adjusted pre-tax profit and group revenue of US$28,311 million. SABMiller plc is listed on the London and Johannesburg stock exchanges.
Foster's owns seven of the top 10 beer brands in Australia. Its beers include VB, Cascade and Crown Lager. (e- Malt.com Newsletter 48b of 2nd December 11)
FOSTER'S
Australia: Foster's revives two Queensland brands and removes one New South Wales beer from regular production Foster's brewing division CUB has revived the classic Queensland beers Brisbane Bitter and Bulimba Gold Top just days before the brewer is set to be sold to British-based SABMiller. However, the NSW-based KB is to be culled, The Australian reported on November, 29.
The Queensland beers, last seen in the 1980s, have been re-created in a limited run of just 5000 cases each, to be sold in Brisbane bottle shops.
Carlton United Brewers brewing operations manager Geoff Day said the company could bring the beers back to full-time production if they proved popular.
"Beer drinkers are drawn to brands that remind them of home," he said, noting the success of the Great Northern brand it launched last year in Queensland.
CUB master brewer John Cozens said: "There's a strong nostalgia element in beer. People have fond memories of these brands and their parents drinking them." He said the brand revivals were not deliberately timed to coincide with the A$12.9 billion takeover, which shareholders approved at a meeting held in Melbourne on December 1 despite opposition from small investors dismayed to be losing the iconic company to foreign ownership. ************************************************************ NSW MEETINGS.
The NSW Christmas party was held at the Festival Cafe in Darling Harbour on 25th November. Unfortunately the night was far from ideal being the start of a cold and wet number of days in Sydney. However 34 members and guests attended and the night was extremely successful with great food and an extensive range of beers donated by very generous sponsors. These included Lion/Tooheys, Malt Shovel, Blue Tongue, Matilda Bay, Schwartz, St Peters. We are very grateful to all these sponsors. ************************************************************
We have no positions to advertise this month.
FORWARD PLANNING
An elderly woman decided to have her portrait painted. She told the artist "Paint me withdiamond eearrings, a diamond necklace, emerald bracelets, a ruby broach, and a gold Rolex" "But you're not wearing any of those things" said the artist. "I know," she said. "It's in case I should die before my husband. I'm sure he will remarry right away, and I want his new wife to go crazy looking for the jewellery".
************************************************************ THINK YOU'RE HAVING A BAD DAY? Things Got Ya Down? Well Then, Consider These . . .. In a hospital's Intensive Care Unit, patients always died in the same bed, on Sunday morning, at about 11:00 am, regardless of their medical condition. This puzzled the doctors and some even thought it had something to do with the super natural. No one could solve the mystery as to why the deaths occurred around 11:00 AM Sunday, so a worldwide team of experts was assembled to investigate the cause of the incidents. The next Sunday morning, a few minutes before 11:00 AM all of the doctors and nurses nervously waited outside the ward to see for themselves what the terrible phenomenon was all about. Some were holding wooden crosses, prayer books, and other holy objects to ward off the evil spirits. Just when the clock struck 11:00, Pookie Johnson , the part-time Sunday sweeper, entered the ward and unplugged the life support system so he could use the vacuum cleaner.
Still Having a Bad Day? The average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez Oil spill in Alaska was $80,000.00. At a special ceremony, two of the most expensively saved animals were being released back into the wild amid cheers and applause from onlookers. A minute later, in full view, a killer whale ate them both.
Still think you are having a Bad Day? A woman came home to find her husband in the kitchen shaking frantically, almost in a dancing frenzy, with some kind of wire running from his waist towards the electric kettle. Intending to jolt him away from the deadly current, she whacked him with a handy plank of wood, breaking his arm in two places. Up to that moment, he had been happily listening to his Walkman. ************************************************************
HOLY EMAIL
One day God was looking down at earth and saw all of the scandalous behavior that was going on. So He called St. Michael and sent him to earth for a time. When Michael returned, he told God, 'Yes, it is bad on earth; 95% are misbehaving and only 5% are not. God thought for a moment and said, 'Maybe I had better send a second Archangel down to get another opinion.' So God sent St. Gabriel to earth for a time. When Gabriel returned he went to God and said, 'Yes, its true. The earth is in decline; 95% are misbehaving, but 5% are being good.' God was not pleased. So He decided to e-mail the 5% who were good, because he wanted to encourage them, and give them a little something to help them keep going. Do you know what the e-mail said?
Okay, I was just wondering, because I didn't get one either. ************************************************************
Don't frighten the driver! A true story from the pages of the Manchester Evening News . . .
Last Wednesday a passenger in a taxi heading for Salford station leaned over to ask the driver a question and gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb and stopped just inches from a large plate window. For a few moments everything was silent in the cab. Then, the shaking driver said "are you OK? I'm so sorry, but you scared the daylights out of me." The badly shaken passenger apologized to the driver and said, "I didn't realize that a mere tap on the shoulder would startle someone so badly." The driver replied, "No, no, I'm the one who is sorry, it's entirely my fault. Today is my very first day driving a cab. I've been driving a hearse for 25 years." ************************************************************ Happy Brewing
